What's the best strategy for investing?

Everyone has an opinion — buy value, buy growth, buy quality. The 10-year data says one thing: buy what's moving.

⚠ Myths we bust first
▶myth "The PE is low — it must be a bargain"
HDFC Bank traded around ₹730 in October 2021. In September 2026, it's still at ~₹731. That's 5 years of zero returns on India's largest private bank. PE has been below 16 for months — screeners scream "undervalued!" yet the price hasn't moved.

ITC was at ~₹270 in late 2022. In September 2026, it's at ~₹269. 4 years of nothing. PE sits at ~17, well below its 10-year median of 24. A textbook "value" pick that delivered zero.
💡Low PE = cheap. Cheap ≠ Returns. A stock is cheap for a reason — and "cheap" can last years. Momentum investors don't touch these until the price actually starts moving.
📖 The low-PE trap, explained with data
▶myth "The stock has fallen so much — time to buy the dip"
Gensol Engineering (parent of BluSmart, the EV cabs you see at Bengaluru airport) peaked at ~₹1,284 in February 2024. Then the fall: ₹1,000 by June → ₹800 by October → ₹580 by February 2025 → ₹57 by May 2025. At every stage, dip-buyers said "it can't fall further." Then SEBI discovered the company was a fraud — promoters had diverted hundreds of crores. The stock is now near ₹16 in September 2026. Another example is DreamFolks (the company behind the airport lounges) fell from highs of ₹550 in 2024 to about ₹60 in 2026.
🔪Don't catch a falling knife. A stock falling from 500 to 300 can absolutely fall to 50. If it's falling, stay out. When it starts climbing with volume — that's your signal, not the dip.
▶myth "It's already 3x — too late to buy"
BSE Ltd traded around ₹150 in March 2023. By September 2023 it had tripled to ~₹450. Everyone said "too late, already 3x!" That stock went on to hit ₹4,447 in May 2026 — roughly a 30x from March 2023. If you boarded at the "too late" price of ₹450, you still captured a 10x ride.
🚂A train from Delhi to Bangalore doesn't stop being worth boarding in Madhya Pradesh. What matters: is the train moving, and is the destination still ahead?
▶myth "I use the brand every day — must be a good stock"
You eat Aashirvaad atta and Bingo chips every week? ITC makes both. Its stock has gone nowhere in 4 years. You pay with Paytm? The stock crashed from ₹2,150 at IPO to under ₹400. You buy Tata Sampann dal? Tata Consumer Products was at ~₹1,200 in October 2024 and fell to ~₹880 by September 2026. Brand love doesn't translate to stock returns.
🛒You're a customer, not a shareholder. A great product doesn't mean a great stock price. The market prices in growth, not grocery lists.
▶myth "I'll wait for the market to crash, then invest big"
In March 2020 the Nifty crashed 40% to ~8,000. Everyone said "wait for it to go lower." It never did. By December 2020 it was back at 14,000. By September 2024 it crossed 26,000. The people who waited for "a bigger crash" are still waiting — while the market has more than tripled.
⏰The market doesn't send you a calendar invite. Time in market beats timing the market — every study confirms this.
▶myth "This stock gives 8% dividend — better than an FD"
Oil companies like ONGC and PSUs like Coal India often show 7–10% dividend yields. Looks amazing on paper. But the stock price drops by roughly the dividend amount on ex-dividend day. Coal India paid generous dividends for years while the stock went from ₹400 (2022) to ₹350 (mid-2026). You collected the dividend and lost it back in capital erosion.
💸Dividend is your own money returned to you minus tax. If the stock isn't growing, the dividend is just your capital dressed up in a different outfit.
❓ Questions you might have
▶I want to know buy-and-hold type of stocks?

Buy-and-hold works — but only if you're holding the right stocks at the right time. A 10-year study of the top 250 Indian stocks showed momentum returned 24.9% vs 13.7% benchmark. The trick: hold what's rising, rebalance weekly or monthly to rotate out what's lost steam. It's still buy-and-hold — just with a rule that says "hold winners, release losers."

▶How do I protect myself during a crash?

Rule-based exit. When stocks lose their upward trend, you step out — no emotional attachment. The system moves you to cash before a dip becomes a 50% drawdown.

How do I invest without losing everything?

The fear of losing money keeps people in FDs and savings accounts while inflation eats them alive. There's a boring, simple way to grow wealth safely.

⚠ Myths we bust first
▶myth "FDs are safe — stocks are too risky for me"
A ₹1 lakh FD at 7% gives you ₹1.07 lakh after a year. Inflation at 6% means that money buys what ₹1.01 lakh did last year. After tax (30% bracket), you net ~4.9%. Inflation-adjusted return: negative. Your "safe" money is shrinking every single year while you think it's growing.
💡The real risk isn't investing. It's not investing. Your FD is a slow leak disguised as a safe box.
▶myth "Gold has already doubled — it can't go higher"
People said this when gold crossed ₹30,000/10g. Then at ₹50,000. Then ₹70,000. Now it's past ₹150,000. Every "peak" turned out to be a pitstop. Governments keep printing, debt keeps growing (US debt approaching $40 trillion, interest payments tripled in 5 years), and gold supply is physically limited — new mines take 15 years to produce.
⛏Gold isn't a trade. It's a structural allocation against a broken monetary system. Central banks are buying it for a reason — and they know more than your WhatsApp group.
📖 Why gold matters, explained with data
▶myth "I need to pick the right stocks to make money"
A simple equal-weight split across Indian stocks, US stocks, and gold — with zero stock-picking — returned 16.9% CAGR over 19 years. 100% Indian equity with all the research, tips, and stock-picking returned 12%. The boring, no-skill-required portfolio beat the stock-picker. By doing less.
🎯The magic isn't in the pick. It's in the discipline: diversify, rebalance annually, don't touch it. Rule-based always beats gut-feel.
❓ Questions you might have
▶I just started earning — what's the simplest way to invest?

Split three ways: Indian stocks, US stocks, and gold. Rebalance once a year. 19-year backtest: 16.9% CAGR with only 34% max drawdown. All-India equity did 12% with a 70% crash. Boring wins.

📖 Your money should live in 3 countries
▶Should I invest in US stocks even though I live in India?

Your phone, laptop, subscriptions, and travel are priced in dollars. If you only earn rupee returns while spending in a dollar-linked world, you're quietly losing purchasing power. US stocks hedge that gap.

📖 Your money should live in 3 countries
▶Why are governments printing so much money?

Debt is at record highs. Interest payments alone consume 4–6% of global GDP — tripled in five years. The only way to service that debt is to print more. More currency = your money buys less. You can't print gold.

▶What if the rupee crashes — how do I protect my savings?

Five assets that survive devaluation: physical gold, hard currencies (USD, EUR), export-heavy global companies, land, and essential consumables. Bonds, FDs, and domestic savings are the first casualties.

Are you generating returns or creating wealth?

There's a difference. Returns are what your Mutual Fund and FD gives you. Wealth is what compounds when you stop chasing tips and start building systems. Want to explore which side you're on?
